Taste the Difference

Please join us on Sunday, October 17 for the kick-off of our new dinner series Taste the Difference! OK, we admit we stole the idea (with permission!) from our friends at Jardiniere Restaurant in San Francisco. The idea is simple: the menu for each dinner will feature a locally grown/caught item and will hopefully encourage more people to buy locally produced food. The proceeds from each dinner will benefit an organization that works to promote sustainability/preservation. The kick-off dinner, slated for Sunday, October 17, will benefit the SC Aquarium's Sustainable Seafood Education Project and aims to raise public awareness around the benefits of locally caught shrimp -- a major topic in the news these days around here.

The evening will begin at 6:30pm with appetizers and wine and a short discussion about why supporting local fishermen who fish sustainably is good for the environment, the fish lover and the community. Panelists will include Bubba Green from the SC Seafood Alliance; Robert Stehling, Hominy Grill chef/proprietor; John Mark Dean, professor emeritus at University of South Carolina Baruch Institute; Bill Grissom, seafood expert from Whole Foods Market; and a local shrimper TBD (they're busy guys!) Christopher Andrews, executive director at the Aquarium, will keep the discussion moving. Appetizers and wine will be served during the talk and will include pickled shrimp and shrimp pate (yum.) A full dinner served family style with a selection of wines will follow. Guests should arrive at 6:30PM, the discussion will begin at 7PM and the dinner will begin shortly thereafter.

The dinner will be held chez nous -- Hominy Grill at 207 Rutledge Avenue. The price is $60 per head, which includes tax, tip & wine. All of the proceeds benefit the South Carolina Aquarium's Sustainable Seafood Education Project. Call (843) 937 0930 to reserve. We hope to see you there!
